🚨 2026 Mercedes-Benz SL63 AMG: Emergency Neutral
The 2026 SL63 AMG uses a center console-mounted electronic gear selector lever with shift-by-wire technology.

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on a level surface and apply the parking brake if functional.
- Turn the ignition to ON position if 12V power is available (do not start engine).
- Locate the shift lock override slot on the center console, typically covered by a small rectangular cap near the base of the gear selector.
- Use a flathead screwdriver or the key blade to carefully pry off the override cap.
- Insert the key or a small flathead screwdriver into the override slot and press down firmly.
- While holding the override down, move the gear selector to Neutral.
- If successful, the transmission will mechanically release into Neutral even without full electrical power to the shift-by-wire system.
- For flatbed towing, ensure all four wheels are off the ground or use a wheel dolly for rear wheels—AWD SL63 models require flatbed-only transport.

With zero electrical power
With completely dead 12V battery, the electronic gear selector cannot be moved electrically. You must access the mechanical shift lock override as described. If the override does not allow shifter movement, the transmission remains locked in Park. Jump-start the vehicle or provide temporary 12V power to the system to engage Neutral, then immediately disconnect power if towing. As a last resort, the vehicle must be dragged onto a flatbed with wheels locked—this may damage drivetrain components.
