🚨 2022 Mini Cooper SE: Emergency Neutral
The 2022 Mini Cooper SE uses a floor-mounted console lever shifter with electronic shift lock, identical in design to the gas Cooper.

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and set the parking brake (if functional).
- If possible, turn the ignition to ACC or ON position.
- Locate the shift lock override slot on the right side of the shifter base, covered by a small rectangular plastic cap.
- Use a flathead screwdriver or similar tool to carefully pry off the plastic cap.
- Insert a screwdriver, key, or similar tool into the override slot and press down firmly.
- While holding the override down, move the shifter from Park to Neutral.
- For towing: Once in Neutral with the high-voltage system off, the vehicle can roll freely, but Mini recommends flatbed transport to avoid potential drive unit issues.

With zero electrical power
The shift lock override is mechanical and works without 12V power. Remove the cap and press the override with a tool while shifting. The high-voltage battery state does not affect the mechanical shift lock release.
⚡ EV / hybrid warning
The 2022 Cooper SE must be transported on a flatbed. While the vehicle can be placed in Neutral for loading, do not tow with wheels on the ground as the electric drive unit can generate voltage when rotated, potentially damaging components or creating safety hazards.
