The procedure
- Ensure the parking brake is firmly engaged and wheels are chocked.
- Turn the ignition key to ACC or ON position if battery has any charge remaining.
- Locate the shift lock override slot on the left side of the shifter base, near the P-R-N-D indicator panel.
- Remove the small rectangular plastic cap covering the override slot (it may require gentle prying with a flat screwdriver).
- Insert a small flat-blade screwdriver or the key blade into the override slot.
- Press down firmly on the override while simultaneously pressing the shifter button and moving the shifter to Neutral.
- If the vehicle must be moved without any power, keep the override depressed while an assistant pushes the vehicle.
