🚨 2026 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross: Emergency Neutral
The 2026 Eclipse Cross PHEV uses a console-mounted electronic shift lever with a traditional PRND gate and push-button release.

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on a level surface and set the parking brake firmly.
- Turn the ignition to ON (press START button twice without brake pedal, or use emergency 12V power if available).
- Press and hold the brake pedal.
- Press the shift lock release button on the shift lever (the button on the front face of the shifter) and move the shifter to Neutral.
- If no electrical power: locate the shift lock override slot—typically a small covered slot near the base of the shifter console, on the left or right side.
- Remove the small cap/cover over the override slot using a flat tool or your fingernail.
- Insert a flathead screwdriver, key, or similar tool into the slot and press down firmly while simultaneously pressing the shifter button and moving to Neutral.
- If moving onto a flatbed, leave in Neutral; if the hybrid battery is sufficiently charged, the vehicle may attempt to creep—always use wheel chocks.
Shift-lock override location
Small covered slot at the base of the center console shifter, typically left or right side of the shifter base; consult owner's manual for exact position as trim variations exist.
With zero electrical power
With zero 12V power, you must use the mechanical shift lock override slot. Insert a tool into the override slot and apply firm downward pressure while simultaneously attempting to move the shifter. If the override does not release, the steering column lock may also engage—ensure the steering wheel is straight. You may need to jump-start the 12V battery minimally to release electronic locks.
⚡ EV / hybrid warning
PHEV CRITICAL: The Eclipse Cross PHEV has both electric drive and a gasoline engine. Even in Neutral with the ignition OFF, the hybrid system may engage if the 12V system has power or if residual charge exists. ALWAYS transport on a flatbed with all four wheels off the ground. Do NOT tow with any wheels on the ground. Failure to flatbed may cause hybrid system damage or unintended movement. Chock all four wheels before and during loading.
