🚨 2025 Morgan Plus Four: Emergency Neutral

The 2025 Plus Four continues with the BMW-sourced 8-speed ZF automatic transmission with a traditional console-mounted PRND shifter lever and electronic shift lock.

Expert-verified by Chris Hackleman & Jeff Moore — master technicians, 20+ years each.
⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.

The procedure

  1. Ensure the parking brake is firmly engaged and the vehicle is on level ground
  2. Turn the ignition to ACC or ON position if 12V power is available
  3. Firmly depress and hold the brake pedal
  4. Press the shift lock override button (small rectangular slot with cap) located on the left side of the shifter base near the driver's side
  5. Insert a small flathead screwdriver or key into the override slot and press down firmly
  6. While holding the override down, move the shifter from Park to Neutral
  7. If the ignition cannot be powered on, use the override method with firm pressure on the brake pedal for mechanical leverage
Shift-lock override location

With zero electrical power
With zero 12V power, the shift lock override still functions mechanically. Apply firm brake pedal pressure while using the override button. The BMW-derived system has a mechanical release that does not require electrical power, but you will need sufficient force on the brake pedal to activate the interlock mechanism physically.
