🚨 2010 Nissan Altima: Emergency Neutral
The 2010 Altima Hybrid uses a floor-mounted console shifter lever with electronic shift interlock and hybrid-specific transmission control.

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure the parking brake is firmly set and wheels are chocked.
- Press the Power button twice without pressing the brake pedal to reach ON/ACC mode if 12V battery has any charge.
- Locate the shift lock override - it is a small rectangular slot with a removable plastic cover on the right side of the shifter base, toward the front.
- Use a flathead screwdriver or small tool to carefully pry out the plastic cover cap.
- Insert a small flathead screwdriver or similar tool straight down into the override slot.
- While holding the tool down firmly (this depresses the manual release mechanism), move the shifter from Park to Neutral.
- You may need to press down hard on the override tool while simultaneously pulling the shifter toward you and moving it to Neutral.
- Once in Neutral, the vehicle can be loaded onto a flatbed.

With zero electrical power
With complete 12V battery failure, the hybrid system cannot initialize. Use the manual override slot to shift to Neutral. The steering wheel will remain locked without power. The hybrid system may also prevent normal rolling even in Neutral due to motor/generator drag - flatbed transport is strongly recommended.
⚡ EV / hybrid warning
CRITICAL: This hybrid Altima must be transported on a flatbed with all wheels off the ground or with rear wheels on the ground only after confirming Neutral. The electric motor/generator can create significant resistance even in Neutral with a dead 12V battery. Do NOT tow with front wheels on the ground. Do NOT attempt to push-start or jump-start the hybrid high-voltage system.
