The 2005 Nissan Armada uses a traditional column-mounted automatic transmission shifter with a mechanical shift-lock interlock.

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure the parking brake is firmly engaged and the vehicle is on a level surface with wheels chocked.
- Turn the ignition key to the ON position (or ACC if the engine won't start) to enable the shift-lock solenoid.
- Press and hold the brake pedal firmly.
- Move the shifter from Park to Neutral.
- If the shifter will not move from Park with the key on and brake pressed, locate the shift-lock override slot on the column shifter shroud.
- The override slot is typically a small rectangular opening near the base of the shifter stalk, often covered by a removable plastic cap.
- Remove the cap and insert a small flathead screwdriver or similar tool into the override slot.
- Press down on the override release while simultaneously moving the shifter to Neutral.
- If the vehicle has no electrical power at all, you may need to manually override: use the shift-lock override slot with a screwdriver to mechanically release the shifter lock, then move to Neutral without electrical power.

With zero electrical power
If there is zero electrical power (dead battery, no key power), the shift-lock override slot can still be used mechanically. Insert a tool into the override slot and press down to release the lock, then manually move the shifter to Neutral. The mechanical override does not require electrical power.
