⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure the parking brake is firmly engaged and the vehicle is on level ground.
- Turn the ignition key to the ACC or ON position if battery power is available.
- Press and hold the brake pedal firmly.
- Locate the shift-lock override slot – it is a small rectangular opening covered by a removable plastic cap, located on the left side or front side of the shifter base.
- Remove the cap by prying it gently with a flathead screwdriver or your fingernail.
- Insert a flathead screwdriver, key, or similar rigid object into the override slot and push down while simultaneously pressing the shifter button and moving the shifter to Neutral.
- If successful, the shifter will release and move to Neutral; the vehicle can now be moved or towed.

With zero electrical power
With zero battery power, the shift-lock override will still function mechanically. You do NOT need ignition power to use the override – simply access the override slot, insert a tool, press down, and shift to Neutral. The mechanical override bypasses all electronic interlocks.
