🚨 2010 Nissan GT-R: Emergency Neutral

The 2010 GT-R (R35 generation) uses a console-mounted sequential-style lever controlling a 6-speed dual-clutch transmission with electronic shift control.

Expert-verified by Chris Hackleman & Jeff Moore — master technicians, 20+ years each.
⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.

The procedure

  1. Ensure the parking brake is engaged and the vehicle is on level ground.
  2. Attempt to turn the ignition to ON position using the Intelligent Key (press START button twice without pressing brake) if battery has any residual charge.
  3. If power is available, press and hold the brake pedal.
  4. Locate the shift-lock override release: it is a small covered slot located on the right side of the shifter base, near the bottom of the center console trim surrounding the shifter.
  5. Remove the small rubber or plastic cap covering the override slot.
  6. Insert a flathead screwdriver or similar tool into the slot and push down firmly while simultaneously moving the shifter rearward to Neutral position.
  7. The shifter should release from Park and move to Neutral.

With zero electrical power
With zero 12V battery power, the GT-R's electronic dual-clutch transmission presents challenges. The shift-lock override mechanism is mechanical and will release the shifter itself, but the DCT may not mechanically disengage without power. In a true dead-battery situation, you MUST use a flatbed tow truck with all four wheels off the ground or wheel dollies under the rear wheels. Do NOT attempt to roll the vehicle in Neutral with a dead DCT – serious transmission damage can occur. If you must move the car a few feet (onto a flatbed), the override will allow shifter movement, but minimize any rolling distance.
