🚨 2014 Nissan GT-R: Emergency Neutral

The R35 GT-R uses a sequential-style console shift lever for its dual-clutch transmission with electronic shift-lock protection.

Expert-verified by Chris Hackleman & Jeff Moore — master technicians, 20+ years each.
⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.

The procedure

  1. Ensure the parking brake is firmly engaged and the vehicle is on level ground
  2. Turn the ignition to ACC or ON position if 12V power is available
  3. Firmly depress the brake pedal
  4. Locate the shift-lock override slot—it's a small rectangular opening with a cover cap on the left side of the shifter base, near the driver's side
  5. Remove the cover cap by prying gently with a flat-blade screwdriver or trim tool
  6. Insert a flat-blade screwdriver or similar tool into the override slot and press down firmly
  7. While holding the override down and keeping the brake depressed, move the shifter to N (neutral)
  8. The vehicle can now be moved or towed

With zero electrical power
With a completely dead battery, the shift-lock override will still work mechanically. However, you will NOT be able to turn the steering wheel (electric power steering will be locked). For flatbed loading with no power, use the shift-lock override to access neutral, but be aware the steering will remain locked—load straight onto the flatbed without turning the wheels. A jump start or external 12V power to unlock steering is strongly recommended before any movement.
