🚨 2024 Nissan GT-R: Emergency Neutral

The R35 GT-R uses a console-mounted sequential-style lever for its 6-speed dual-clutch transmission with electronic shift-by-wire control.

Expert-verified by Chris Hackleman & Jeff Moore — master technicians, 20+ years each.
⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.

The procedure

  1. Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and set the parking brake firmly
  2. Turn the ignition to ON position (engine does not need to run, but 12V power must be available for normal procedure)
  3. Press and hold the brake pedal firmly
  4. Press the shift lock override button located on the left side of the shifter base (a small rectangular button or slot near the base of the shift lever)
  5. While holding the override button and brake pedal, move the shifter to N (Neutral)
  6. If the vehicle will be towed, leave the shifter in N and ensure the ignition remains in ACC or ON position during flat-deck loading
Shift-lock override location
Left side of the shifter base console - look for a small rectangular button or access slot adjacent to the shift lever boot
With zero electrical power
With a completely dead battery, the GT-R's electronic DCT cannot be shifted using the normal override. The transmission will likely be locked in Park. You will need to jump-start the 12V battery to gain enough power to activate the shifter override system. Once minimal power is restored, follow the normal override procedure. If jump-starting is not possible, the vehicle must be loaded onto a flatbed with the drive wheels lifted or using skates.
