🚨 2023 Nissan Rogue Sport: Emergency Neutral

The 2023 Rogue Sport uses a console-mounted CVT shift lever with electronic shift-lock protection.

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.

The procedure

  1. Ensure parking brake is firmly engaged and vehicle is on level ground
  2. Turn ignition to ON position if battery has any charge (do not start engine)
  3. Press and hold the brake pedal firmly
  4. Locate the shift lock release - look for a small cap or slot near the shifter base on the driver's side of the shifter assembly
  5. Remove the cap if present, then press the shift lock release mechanism with a small screwdriver or similar tool
  6. While holding the release down, move the shifter to Neutral
  7. If battery is completely dead, use the mechanical override while having another person push the vehicle, or provide temporary 12V power via jump pack
Shift-lock override location
Near the shifter base, typically on the driver's side of the shifter assembly - look for a small removable cap or visible slot
With zero electrical power
With zero 12V power, the CVT electronic systems and shift lock will not function normally. The mechanical shift lock override should still work, but may require firm pressure. If available, connecting a jump pack or donor battery to provide minimal 12V power will make the process easier. For flatbed loading with dead battery, the vehicle can be dollied or winched with all precautions for CVT transmission.
