🚨 2026 Nissan Rogue Sport: Emergency Neutral

The 2026 Nissan Rogue Sport uses a console-mounted electronic shift-by-wire lever with integrated shift lock.

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.

The procedure

  1. Ensure the parking brake is firmly engaged and the vehicle is on level ground
  2. Turn the ignition to ACC or ON position if battery has any charge remaining
  3. Firmly depress and hold the brake pedal
  4. Locate the shift lock override slot - it is a small rectangular opening with a cover cap near the base of the shifter assembly on the driver's side
  5. Use a flathead screwdriver or key to pry off the small cover cap
  6. Insert a small flathead screwdriver or similar tool into the override slot and press down firmly
  7. While holding the override down, move the shifter to Neutral
  8. If the shifter will not move, continue holding the override and ensure the brake pedal is fully depressed

With zero electrical power
With completely dead battery, the electronic shifter may not release even with override on some trim levels. If override does not work, the vehicle must be transported on a flatbed or dollies with rear wheels off the ground (FWD vehicle). Do not attempt to tow with rear wheels on ground.
