The procedure
- Ensure parking brake is firmly engaged and wheels are chocked
- If manual transmission: simply press clutch pedal fully and shift to neutral - no electronic interlock exists
- If automatic transmission with dead battery: locate the shift lock override slot near the shifter base (console shifter) or on the column shroud (column shifter)
- Insert a small flathead screwdriver or key into the override slot while simultaneously moving the shifter to neutral
- For column shifters: the override is typically accessed by prying off a small cover panel on the right side of the column shroud near the shifter gate
- Once in neutral, vehicle can be pushed or winched onto flatbed
