The procedure
- Ensure parking brake is engaged and wheels are chocked
- Locate the shift lock override slot - it is a small rectangular opening covered by a removable cap directly forward and to the right of the shifter knob base
- Use a flathead screwdriver or key to carefully pry off the small rubber or plastic cap covering the override slot
- Firmly press the brake pedal (or have helper do so if any residual vacuum exists in the brake booster)
- Insert a small flathead screwdriver, pen, or key into the exposed override slot and press down firmly
- While holding the override down, move the shifter from Park to Neutral
- Vehicle can now be pushed or winched onto flatbed

With zero electrical power
With completely dead battery, the mechanical shift lock override will still function - it is a purely mechanical release. You do not need any electrical power to use the override mechanism.
