⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Apply the parking brake firmly and chock the wheels
- Turn the ignition key to ON (or ACC) position if possible—this may provide enough power to release the shift lock
- Locate the shift-lock override slot: it is a small rectangular slot with a plastic cap, located on the left side of the shifter base near the P position
- Use a flathead screwdriver or key to pry off the small cap
- Insert a small screwdriver, key, or similar tool into the slot and press down firmly
- While holding the override down, move the shifter from P to N
- The vehicle can now roll; keep parking brake engaged until ready to move

With zero electrical power
The S15 Silvia shift-lock override is mechanical and does NOT require 12V power to function. Even with a completely dead battery, you can use the override slot to release the shifter and move it to N. This is a fully mechanical bypass.
