🚨 2012 Nissan Titan: Emergency Neutral

The 2012 Nissan Titan uses a column-mounted shifter with a shift-lock solenoid that requires brake application and electrical power to release from Park.

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.

The procedure

  1. Apply the parking brake firmly and chock the wheels
  2. Turn the ignition key to ON or ACC position to provide power to the shift-lock system
  3. Locate the shift-lock override: look for a small access hole or removable cap on the lower shroud of the steering column, typically near the base of the shifter on the right side
  4. If a cap is present, pry it off carefully with a trim tool or small flathead screwdriver
  5. Insert a small screwdriver, key, or similar tool into the access hole and press or push the release mechanism
  6. While holding the override, press the brake pedal and move the column shifter from P to N
  7. The vehicle can now roll; maintain parking brake until ready

With zero electrical power
If you have zero 12V power and cannot turn the key to ON, the shift-lock override may still work mechanically on this generation. Try the override procedure without power. If it does not release, you will need to jump-start the 12V battery to provide minimal power to the column, or load the vehicle onto a flatbed with the rear wheels on dollies (4WD models) or rear wheels on the ground (2WD models).
