🚨 2015 Nissan Titan: Emergency Neutral

The 2015 Titan uses a traditional column-mounted shift lever with a button on the front of the lever that must be pressed to shift out of Park.

Expert-verified by Chris Hackleman & Jeff Moore — master technicians, 20+ years each.
⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.

The procedure

  1. Ensure the parking brake is firmly engaged and wheels are chocked.
  2. Turn the ignition key to the ACC or ON position if battery has any charge remaining.
  3. Locate the shift lock override slot: it is a small rectangular slot with a removable cover cap located on the bottom of the steering column shroud, directly below and slightly forward of the shift lever.
  4. Use a flathead screwdriver or the metal key blade to pry off the small cover cap over the override slot.
  5. Insert the screwdriver or key into the override slot and press down firmly while simultaneously pressing the shift lever button and moving the lever to Neutral.
  6. If successful, the lever will move freely to Neutral; keep the override pressed until the shifter is fully engaged in Neutral.
  7. Do NOT attempt to shift into any gear other than Neutral without the brake pedal depressed and engine running.

With zero electrical power
With zero electrical power, the shift lock override will still function mechanically. You do not need battery power to use the override slot. However, you will not be able to turn the steering wheel without significant force due to the locked steering column, so the vehicle must be loaded straight onto a flatbed or dolly.
