🚨 2026 Nissan Versa: Emergency Neutral

The 2026 Versa uses a traditional console-mounted PRNDL lever with electronic shift lock.

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.

The procedure

  1. Ensure parking brake is firmly applied and vehicle is on level ground
  2. Turn ignition to ACC or ON position if 12V power available
  3. Press and fully hold the brake pedal
  4. Locate the shift lock override slot - a small covered opening near the shifter base on the left side
  5. Use a flathead screwdriver or key to remove the override cover cap
  6. While holding the brake pedal, insert the screwdriver into the override slot and press down firmly
  7. While holding the override down, move the shifter from Park to Neutral
  8. Remove screwdriver and replace cover cap
Shift-lock override location
Small rectangular slot with removable cap on the left side of the shifter base, typically near the P button or shifter root
With zero electrical power
With zero 12V power, the override slot still functions mechanically - you do NOT need ignition power to use it. Simply insert tool into override slot, press down, and shift to Neutral. The shifter lock is a mechanical solenoid that defaults to locked, but the override bypasses it completely.
