🚨 2022 Opel Astra: Emergency Neutral
The 2022 Opel Astra (L generation) uses an electronic console-mounted shift lever with shift-lock interlock.

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure the parking brake is firmly engaged and the vehicle is on level ground
- Turn the ignition to ACC or ON position if battery power is available (key in ignition or press START button without brake)
- Locate the shift-lock override slot - it is a small rectangular opening with a cover cap near the base of the shifter console, typically on the left side or front of the shifter base
- Use a flathead screwdriver or similar tool to carefully pry off the small plastic cover cap
- Insert the screwdriver or key into the override slot and press down firmly
- While holding the override down, press the brake pedal (if power available) and move the shifter to Neutral
- If successful, release the override and remove the tool; the shifter should remain in Neutral
Shift-lock override location
Small capped slot near the base of the center console shifter, generally on the left or front side of the shifter mechanism
With zero electrical power
With completely dead battery: the shift-lock override may still work mechanically. Attempt the override procedure, but note that the shifter itself may have electronic components that prevent movement. If override fails with no power, the vehicle must be flatbedded. Do NOT attempt to jump-start solely to shift - if attempting jump-start, ensure proper procedures are followed for this generation's electrical system.
