The procedure
- Ensure the parking brake is firmly engaged and the vehicle is on level ground
- Attempt to power the vehicle to ACC or READY mode if any battery charge remains (press START without brake pedal)
- Locate the shift-lock override access - look for a small removable cap near the shifter base on the left side or front of the console
- Remove the plastic cover cap using a flathead screwdriver or by prying gently with your fingers
- Insert a screwdriver, key, or the emergency release tool (if provided in vehicle toolkit) into the override slot
- Press down firmly on the override mechanism while simultaneously attempting to move the shifter to Neutral
- If the 12V battery is completely dead and override does not work, the hybrid system cannot be placed in tow mode - flatbed transport is required
