⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on level ground and apply the parking brake firmly
- Attempt to activate the hybrid system by pressing the start button with the key fob nearby (may work even with weak 12V battery if hybrid battery has charge)
- If the system powers up, press the brake pedal and toggle the gear selector to Neutral
- If the 12V battery is completely dead and the system won't power up, you must access the mechanical shift lock release
- Look for a small plastic cap or cover near the base of the gear selector toggle on the console
- Remove the cap to reveal the mechanical override access point
- Insert a small flat-blade screwdriver or similar tool into the override slot
- Press and hold the override while attempting to move the gear selector to Neutral
- If the hybrid system remains completely unresponsive, the vehicle MUST be loaded onto a flatbed with all wheels off the ground—never tow a hybrid with wheels on the ground

With zero electrical power
The hybrid 3008 has both a 12V battery and a high-voltage hybrid battery. If the 12V battery is dead, the entire vehicle system may be unresponsive even if the hybrid battery is charged. Jump-starting the 12V battery is usually required to activate the shift-by-wire system. Without any power, even the mechanical override may not release the transmission park mechanism. The vehicle must be loaded onto a flatbed if jump-starting is not possible.
⚡ EV / hybrid warning
HYBRID WARNING: The 3008 Hybrid must NEVER be towed with any wheels on the ground, even in Neutral, as this can cause severe damage to the electric drive components and generate dangerous high voltage in the system. Always use a flatbed with all four wheels off the ground. Ensure the high-voltage system is fully shut down before loading. If the hybrid system is active (orange warning lights visible), do not attempt to move the vehicle until it fully powers down.
