The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on a level surface and apply the parking brake firmly
- Turn the ignition to ON/ACC position if 12V power is available (press START button without brake pedal, or insert key and turn to ON)
- Press and hold the brake pedal firmly
- Move the electronic shifter to N (neutral) position by pushing forward briefly—the shifter will spring back to center
- Verify neutral engagement on the instrument cluster display
- If the shifter is electronically locked and will not move, locate the shift lock override—look for a small removable cap or cover near the base of the shifter assembly on the console
- Use a small flat tool or key to press the override release while holding the brake and moving the shifter to N
- Once in neutral, the parking brake can be released for towing

With zero 12V power, the electronic shifter will not function. The 12V battery must be jump-started or recharged sufficiently to power the shifter control module. If this is not possible, the vehicle must be loaded onto a flatbed with wheels free or dragged onto the bed—do NOT attempt to tow with drive wheels on the ground.
