🚨 2018 Peugeot 5008: Emergency Neutral

The 2018 Peugeot 5008 (second generation on EMP2 platform) uses an electronic monostable shifter with shift-by-wire on automatic transmission models.

Expert-verified by Chris Hackleman & Jeff Moore — master technicians, 20+ years each.
⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.

The procedure

  1. Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and apply the parking brake if functional
  2. Turn the ignition to ON/accessory mode using the key or start button (do not start the engine)
  3. Press and firmly hold the brake pedal
  4. Locate the shift-lock override cover on the center console near the shifter base - it's a small rectangular or circular plastic cap
  5. Use a flat-blade screwdriver or the mechanical key to carefully pry off the override cover
  6. Insert the screwdriver into the revealed override slot and press down firmly
  7. While holding the override down and maintaining brake pressure, move the shifter to Neutral position
  8. Once in Neutral, release the override and remove the tool
  9. The vehicle can now be moved or loaded

With zero electrical power
With a completely dead 12V battery, the electronic shifter will not function. You must first jump-start the vehicle's 12V battery (located in the engine bay under the hood) to provide minimal electrical power. Even low voltage may be sufficient to activate the shifter solenoid when using the override. If jump-starting is not possible, the vehicle must be loaded onto a flatbed using wheel dollies or skates under the drive wheels.
