The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and apply the parking brake if functional
- Turn the ignition to ON/accessory mode using the key or start button (do not start the engine)
- Press and firmly hold the brake pedal
- Locate the shift-lock override cover on the center console near the shifter base - it's a small rectangular or circular plastic cap
- Use a flat-blade screwdriver or the mechanical key to carefully pry off the override cover
- Insert the screwdriver into the revealed override slot and press down firmly
- While holding the override down and maintaining brake pressure, move the shifter to Neutral position
- Once in Neutral, release the override and remove the tool
- The vehicle can now be moved or loaded
