The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on level ground and apply the parking brake firmly
- Turn the ignition to ACC or ON position if 12V power is available (press START button without brake pedal)
- Locate the shift lock override—look for a small cap or slot near the base of the shifter assembly on the console
- Use a small flathead screwdriver or the emergency key blade to remove the override cap
- Insert the tool into the override slot and press down while moving the shifter to the N position
- If completely without power, the electronic shifter will not respond; prepare to load vehicle onto flatbed using wheel dollies
- Once in neutral with power available, release the parking brake and the vehicle can roll freely
