🚨 2024 Peugeot Rifter: Emergency Neutral

The 2024 Peugeot Rifter uses a conventional console-mounted automatic transmission shifter with electronic shift-lock.

The procedure

  1. Apply the parking brake firmly
  2. Turn the ignition key to the ON/ACC position if battery has any charge
  3. Locate the shift-lock override access - look for a small rectangular or circular cover/cap on the shifter console, typically to the right or front of the shifter base
  4. Use a flathead screwdriver or similar tool to pry off the override cover
  5. Insert the screwdriver or key into the exposed override slot
  6. Press down firmly on the override mechanism while simultaneously moving the shifter from Park to Neutral
  7. Hold the override depressed until the shifter fully engages Neutral

With zero electrical power
With a completely dead battery, the shift-lock override should mechanically bypass the solenoid. If the override slot does not release the shifter, the mechanism may be seized or the override access may be in a different location. Verify in the owner's manual or attempt a jump-start to provide minimal power to the shift-lock system. As a last resort, flatbed towing may be required.
