🚨 2024 Polestar 3: Emergency Neutral
The 2024 Polestar 3 uses a center console monostable electronic gear selector that returns to center position after each selection.

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on a level surface and apply the parking brake if functional
- If the 12V battery has any charge, press the brake pedal and start button to power up the vehicle
- With the brake pedal depressed, move the gear selector rearward to engage Neutral
- If the shifter does not respond and you have partial electrical power, check for a shift lock override slot near the base of the shifter console
- If present, insert a small flathead screwdriver or the override tool from the toolkit into the override slot while pressing the brake and moving the selector
- If there is complete electrical failure, jump-start the 12V battery (located in the front trunk area) to restore shifter function
- For transport without power restoration, the vehicle must be loaded onto a flatbed with all wheels off the ground
Shift-lock override location
Based on similar Volvo/Polestar architecture, check for a small covered slot near the base of the center console shifter assembly, typically on the right side or front face of the shifter surround
With zero electrical power
With zero 12V power, the electronic gear selector is completely non-functional. The 12V battery must be jump-started to enable any gear selection. The 12V battery is located in the front trunk (frunk). Use an external jump pack or another vehicle to provide temporary 12V power to the jump-start terminals under the hood or in the frunk area. Once power is restored, the shifter should function normally to select Neutral.
⚡ EV / hybrid warning
CRITICAL: The Polestar 3 is a pure electric vehicle. Never tow with any wheels on the ground. The electric motors will generate current when rotated, which can damage the high-voltage battery system and potentially cause thermal runaway. Always transport on a flatbed truck. If you must use a wheel-lift, ensure the driven wheels (or all wheels on AWD models) are completely off the ground using dollies. Short pushes onto a flatbed (a few feet) may be possible with Neutral selected, but extended rolling is prohibited.
