The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on a level surface and chock all wheels before attempting any procedure
- Access the 12V battery location (likely in frunk or under floor panels) - if accessible, connect a jump pack or charger to restore minimal electrical power
- With 12V power restored, press the brake pedal firmly and start the vehicle or place it in accessory mode using the start button
- Operate the shifter according to the system type - if monostable, push forward for Reverse, pull back for Neutral; if touch-based, use the center display or steering column controls
- If the shifter remains locked with power restored, look for a shift lock override near the shifter location - check for a small cap or access panel
- If found, pry up the cap with a flathead screwdriver, press down the override mechanism with a key or small tool while pressing the brake, then select Neutral
