🚨 2024 Porsche 718 Boxster S: Emergency Neutral

The 2024 718 Boxster S with PDK transmission has a center console-mounted shift lever with a traditional PRND gate.

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.

The procedure

  1. Ensure the vehicle is on level ground and apply the parking brake firmly
  2. Turn the ignition to ON position (or press START button without brake pedal to activate accessory mode)
  3. Locate the shift lock override slot on the left side of the shifter base, covered by a small rectangular plastic cap
  4. Use a small flathead screwdriver or the metal key blade to carefully pry off the override cap
  5. Insert the key blade or screwdriver into the override slot and press down firmly while simultaneously pulling the shift lever back toward N
  6. The shifter should release and allow movement to Neutral
  7. If successful, the vehicle can now be moved or towed with front wheels on the ground (up to 50 miles at moderate speeds per Porsche guidelines)

With zero electrical power
With completely dead battery, you cannot energize the shift lock solenoid normally. The mechanical override slot MUST be used. Access requires removing the small cap on the shifter base. If the 12V battery is completely dead, you may need to provide jump power to unlock the steering lock before the vehicle can roll freely.
