The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on a level surface and apply the parking brake firmly
- Turn the ignition to ON position if 12V power is available (press Start button without brake pedal, or use jump pack on battery)
- Press and hold the brake pedal
- Press the shift lock release button located on the left side of the shifter base (small rectangular button near the P position)
- While holding the release button, move the shifter out of Park into Neutral
- If no 12V power is available, locate the shift lock override slot on the left side of the shifter base near the P gate
- Remove the small cover cap (may require a trim tool or flathead screwdriver)
- Insert a key or small flathead screwdriver into the override slot and push down while moving the shifter to Neutral
- For hybrid system in tow mode: With ignition ON and vehicle in Neutral, press and hold the 'P' button on the shifter for approximately 3 seconds until the display confirms transport mode is active
