🚨 2026 Porsche Cayenne GTS: Emergency Neutral

The 2026 Cayenne GTS uses a center console-mounted automatic transmission lever with electronic shift-by-wire and an electronic parking brake.

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.

The procedure

  1. Ensure the vehicle is on level ground and apply wheel chocks if available.
  2. Attempt to gain electrical power: connect a jump starter or donor vehicle to the battery terminals under the hood (positive terminal has a red cover, negative ground point marked with minus symbol).
  3. If power is restored, press the brake pedal fully and start the engine or turn ignition to ON position, then shift to Neutral normally.
  4. If no power can be restored, locate the shift lock override: look for a small rectangular cover or slot near the base of the shifter on the console, typically on the left side or front of the shifter base.
  5. Use a small flathead screwdriver or the emergency key blade to carefully pry off the cover cap.
  6. Insert the screwdriver or key blade into the override slot and press down firmly while simultaneously pulling the shift lever toward Neutral.
  7. The shifter should release and allow movement to Neutral position.
  8. Once in Neutral, the vehicle can be rolled or loaded onto a flatbed.

With zero electrical power
With completely dead battery, you must use the mechanical shift lock override. The electronic parking brake will remain engaged with no power—this is acceptable for loading onto a flatbed with wheel dollies or winch, but the rear wheels will drag. Do not attempt to tow with rear wheels on the ground.
