🚨 2015 Porsche Cayenne S E-Hybrid: Emergency Neutral

The 2015 Cayenne S E-Hybrid uses a traditional console-mounted automatic shifter lever with electronic shift-lock, identical to the standard Cayenne of this generation.

Expert-verified by Chris Hackleman & Jeff Moore — master technicians, 20+ years each.
⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.

The procedure

  1. Ensure the vehicle is on a level surface and apply the parking brake firmly
  2. Attempt to turn the ignition to ON position using the key (this generation uses key ignition) if 12V power is available
  3. Locate the shift-lock override access: look for a small covered slot on the left side of the shifter base near the console
  4. Use a flathead screwdriver or similar tool to pry off the small plastic cover
  5. Insert the screwdriver or key into the exposed override slot and press down firmly
  6. While holding the override down, press the brake pedal (if power available) and move the shifter to Neutral
  7. If no 12V power is available, provide temporary power via jump pack or jumper cables, then use the override to shift to Neutral
Shift-lock override location
Small covered slot on the left side of the shifter base, near the console trim (access may require prying off a small trim cap)
With zero electrical power
With completely dead 12V battery, the electronic shifter mechanism will not release even with the mechanical override. You must provide temporary 12V power to the vehicle battery via jump pack or jumper cables first, then use the override procedure to shift to Neutral.
⚡ EV / hybrid warning
HYBRID WARNING: Before towing, disconnect the 12V battery if possible to prevent hybrid system wake-up. Use flatbed towing ONLY - do not dolly-tow with any wheels on the ground as the electric motor and gasoline engine are both connected to the drivetrain and cannot be mechanically disengaged. Towing with wheels down will cause severe drivetrain damage.
