🚨 2016 Porsche Cayenne S Hybrid: Emergency Neutral
The 2016 Cayenne S Hybrid uses a traditional floor-mounted console shifter with electronic shift lock controlled by the brake pedal interlock system.

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and set the parking brake firmly.
- Turn the ignition to the ON position (do not start the engine) - if battery has sufficient charge, this may allow normal shifting with brake pedal depressed.
- If the shifter remains locked, locate the shift lock override - there is a small plastic cap or cover on the console near the shifter base, typically on the left side of the shifter.
- Use a small flathead screwdriver or trim tool to carefully pry off the override cover cap.
- With the cap removed, insert the screwdriver or key into the override slot and press down firmly while simultaneously pulling the shifter toward you to move it to Neutral.
- Keep the override depressed until the shifter is fully in Neutral position.
- If the vehicle must be towed on a flatbed, ensure it remains in Neutral with the parking brake released before loading.

With zero electrical power
With a completely dead 12V battery, the shifter will be mechanically locked. You must use the shift lock override slot (remove the small cap near shifter base). The hybrid system will be non-functional, but the mechanical override allows shifting to Neutral. You may need to use the manual door lock key cylinder to access the cabin. Consider jump-starting the 12V battery if possible to make the process easier.
⚡ EV / hybrid warning
CRITICAL: The Cayenne S Hybrid must be transported on a flatbed truck only - do NOT tow with any wheels on the ground. The hybrid transaxle can be severely damaged if towed improperly. Even in Neutral, towing with wheels down can cause damage to the electric motor components. Ensure the 12V battery has some charge or is jump-started before transport if possible, as some hybrid system functions require minimal 12V power for safe handling.
