🚨 2011 Porsche Cayenne Turbo: Emergency Neutral

The 2011 Cayenne Turbo (958 generation, first year of redesign) uses a center console-mounted automatic transmission lever with electronic shift interlock.

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.

The procedure

  1. Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and apply the parking brake firmly
  2. Press the brake pedal and attempt to start the vehicle or turn ignition to ON if any battery power remains
  3. Locate the shift lock override: look for a small rectangular cover on the console trim immediately adjacent to the shifter base (typically on the left or front-left side)
  4. Use a flathead screwdriver or the metal key blade to carefully pry off the small plastic cover
  5. Insert the screwdriver or key into the revealed slot and press down firmly
  6. While holding pressure on the override, press the brake pedal and move the shifter from Park to Neutral
  7. Release the override tool once the shifter is in Neutral

With zero electrical power
With completely dead battery, the mechanical shift lock override should still function. However, the 958 generation has an electronic parking brake and electronic steering lock. You may need to jump-start the vehicle momentarily to release the electronic parking brake (EPB) and steering lock before the vehicle can be moved. If EPB will not release electrically, consult Porsche service procedures for mechanical EPB release.
