⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and apply the parking brake if functional
- Turn the ignition to ON position (or press start button twice without brake pedal) to provide power to the shift lock solenoid
- Locate the shift lock override slot: it is a small covered opening on the left side of the shifter base, near the driver's side of the console
- Remove the rubber cap or cover from the override slot using a flathead screwdriver or your fingernail
- Insert a flathead screwdriver, key, or similar thin rigid tool into the override slot and press down firmly
- While holding the override down, press the brake pedal and move the shifter to Neutral
- If no electrical power is available, follow the 'no power' procedure below

With zero electrical power
With completely dead battery: use the manual door lock key to access cabin, connect a jump pack or jumper cables to provide temporary 12V power to energize the shift lock system, then follow standard override procedure. The shift lock requires some electrical power to release. If no power source available, vehicle must be winched onto flatbed with all wheels off ground.
