🚨 2017 Porsche Panamera 4 E-Hybrid: Emergency Neutral

The 2017 Panamera 4 E-Hybrid (971 generation) uses a center console-mounted electronic shift lever (PDK transmission) with electronic shift-lock, identical to gasoline models.

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.

The procedure

  1. Ensure the vehicle is on a level surface and apply the parking brake (if functional)
  2. Turn the ignition to ON position if 12V battery power is available
  3. Locate the shift-lock override slot on the left side of the shifter base, beneath a small rectangular cover
  4. Use a flathead screwdriver or the metal key blade to pry off the small cover cap
  5. Insert the screwdriver or key blade into the override slot and press down firmly
  6. While holding the override down, press the brake pedal (if power available) and move the shifter to Neutral
  7. If no brake pedal feel or power, continue holding the override and physically move the shifter to N
  8. Release the override tool once the shifter is in Neutral position
  9. Verify the gear position indicator shows N (if display has power)
  10. For flatbed transport: Ensure high-voltage system is fully OFF (not just Ready mode off)

With zero electrical power
With completely dead 12V battery, the shift-lock override will still function mechanically. Use the metal key blade from the key fob or a flathead screwdriver in the override slot. The shifter will move to Neutral without requiring electrical power. Note: A dead 12V battery may prevent the high-voltage system from shutting down properly—consult service manual for hybrid system isolation if towing.

HYBRID TOWING WARNING: The Panamera 4 E-Hybrid must be transported on a flatbed truck with all wheels off the ground. DO NOT tow with any wheels on the ground, even in Neutral, as the electric motor/generator within the PDK transmission can generate dangerous voltage and cause system damage. Ensure the high-voltage system is completely shut down before transport. If 12V battery is dead and high-voltage contactors are stuck closed, contact Porsche Roadside Assistance.
