🚨 2018 Porsche Panamera 4 E-Hybrid: Emergency Neutral

The 2018 Panamera 4 E-Hybrid uses a console-mounted PDK (dual-clutch) shifter lever with electronic shift-lock interlocked with the brake pedal.

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.

The procedure

  1. Ensure the vehicle is on a level surface and apply the parking brake firmly.
  2. Turn the ignition to the ON position (push start button without brake pedal) if 12V battery power is available.
  3. Locate the shift-lock override slot: it is a small rectangular slot covered by a plastic cap on the left side of the shifter base, toward the driver's side.
  4. Use a flat-blade screwdriver or similar tool to pry off the small plastic cap covering the override slot.
  5. Insert the screwdriver or key into the override slot and press down firmly while simultaneously pulling the shifter back toward N (Neutral).
  6. The shifter should release from Park and move to Neutral—hold the override tool down throughout the shift motion.
  7. If the vehicle has no electrical power at all, follow the 'noPowerNotes' procedure below.

With zero electrical power
With a completely dead 12V battery, the PDK shifter may remain locked. You must either jump-start the 12V battery to gain minimal electrical power for the shift-lock solenoid, or access the manual transmission release procedure: consult the owner's manual for emergency towing instructions, which may require placing the transmission in a neutral tow mode via the underbody access point. In most cases, flatbed towing is required.

HYBRID VEHICLE WARNING: The Panamera 4 E-Hybrid has both an electric motor and gasoline engine. Even with the ignition off, high-voltage systems may be active. Do NOT attempt to work under the vehicle or access high-voltage components. If flatbed towing, ensure the vehicle is in Neutral or tow mode. For long-distance towing or if Neutral cannot be engaged, flatbed towing with all wheels off the ground is REQUIRED to prevent damage to the PDK transmission and electric drive components.
