🚨 2022 Porsche Panamera GTS: Emergency Neutral

The 2022 Panamera GTS (second generation 971) uses a center console-mounted PDK shifter lever with electronic shift-lock and a physical manual override.

Expert-verified by Chris Hackleman & Jeff Moore — master technicians, 20+ years each.
⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.

The procedure

  1. Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and apply the electronic parking brake (press P button on center console)
  2. Turn the ignition to the ON position if 12V power is available (twist key or press start button without brake)
  3. Press and hold the brake pedal firmly
  4. If the shifter still won't move from Park, locate the shift-lock override: find the small rectangular or square rubber cap on the left side of the shifter base
  5. Use a flathead screwdriver or trim tool to pry out the rubber override cap
  6. Insert a small flathead screwdriver into the exposed override slot and press down firmly
  7. While holding the override mechanism down, pull the shifter release trigger and move the lever rearward to Neutral
  8. Once in Neutral, you can release the override; the vehicle can now roll freely for loading

With zero electrical power
With no 12V power, the electronic parking brake will remain engaged if it was set before battery failure. The shift-lock override will still work mechanically to move the shifter to Neutral, but you must manually release the electronic parking brake by removing the rear caliper service plug covers and manually retracting the parking brake motors with a 12mm hex socket (refer to Porsche service manual), or have the vehicle winched onto a flatbed with rear wheels chocked.
