The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and apply the parking brake firmly (or have wheel chokes ready).
- Locate the shift lock override slot: it is a small covered opening on the left side of the shifter base on the center console.
- Using a small flathead screwdriver or the metal key blade, carefully pry off the small rubber or plastic cap covering the override slot.
- Insert the screwdriver or key blade into the override slot and press down firmly while simultaneously pulling the shifter back toward 'N' (neutral).
- Once in neutral, the vehicle can be rolled or loaded onto a flatbed.
- If the 12V battery is accessible and you can provide temporary power (jump pack or jumper cables), you may be able to shift normally by turning the ignition to 'ON' and depressing the brake pedal.
