🚨 2026 Porsche Panamera Turbo S: Emergency Neutral

The 2026 Panamera uses a traditional center console-mounted P-R-N-D shifter lever with electronic shift-lock.

Expert-verified by Chris Hackleman & Jeff Moore — master technicians, 20+ years each.
⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.

The procedure

  1. Ensure the vehicle is on a level surface and apply the parking brake if functional.
  2. Turn the ignition to ON position (push start button without brake pedal). If battery is dead, see no-power procedure below.
  3. Locate the shift-lock override slot: on the left side of the shifter base, there is a small covered access panel or slot (may require prying with flathead screwdriver).
  4. Remove the cover from the override slot.
  5. Insert a small flathead screwdriver or metal key into the override slot and press down firmly while pulling the shifter out of Park.
  6. Shift to Neutral and hold in position.
  7. If the vehicle must roll, have a second person assist or use appropriate chocking. The shifter may spring back to Park without power, so you may need to keep the override engaged.
  8. Once vehicle is positioned, place shifter back in Park if possible.

With zero electrical power
With completely dead 12V battery, the shifter lock cannot be overridden electronically. You must jump-start the 12V system (battery is under front hood, left side) or connect an external 12V power source to get enough power to activate the override and shift. The PDK transmission requires minimal electrical power to release the shift lock. If jump-starting is not possible, the vehicle must be placed on a flatbed with all four wheels off the ground using wheel dollies—do NOT attempt to tow with front or rear wheels on ground.
