🚨 2017 Porsche Panamera Turbo: Emergency Neutral
The 2017 Panamera (971 generation) uses a small electronic center console shifter lever with P-R-N-D positions that springs back to center after each selection.

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on a level surface and parking brake is engaged if functional.
- If 12V power is available, turn ignition to ON position (press start button without brake pedal).
- Locate the shift lock override slot on the left side of the shifter base, beneath a small rectangular cover cap.
- Use a small flathead screwdriver or the key blade to pry off the cover cap.
- Insert the screwdriver or key blade into the override slot and press down firmly.
- While holding the override down, move the shifter rearward through R to the N position (second detent).
- Release the override and verify the instrument cluster shows N for Neutral.
- If the electronic shifter remains unresponsive even with override, the PDK transmission has a mechanical emergency release - contact Porsche roadside assistance or consult workshop manual for transmission-specific release procedure.

With zero electrical power
With completely dead 12V battery, the electronic shifter and shift lock will not function. You must either jump-start the 12V battery (located in front trunk) to restore minimal power for shifter operation, or access the PDK transmission's mechanical neutral release - this requires workshop access underneath the vehicle. The 971 Panamera does not have a simple cabin-accessible neutral release without any electrical power.
