⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and apply the parking brake fully (or chock all wheels if brake won't hold).
- Turn the ignition to ON position if 12V power is available (do not start engine).
- Press and hold the brake pedal firmly.
- Pull the shifter rearward to move from Park to Reverse, then forward through Neutral to release Park lock.
- If the shifter will not move due to shift interlock failure, locate the small rectangular shift-lock override cover on the left side of the shifter base near the console trim.
- Use a small flathead screwdriver or trim tool to carefully pry off the override cover.
- Insert the screwdriver into the override slot and press down while simultaneously pulling the shifter rearward to release from Park.
- Once in Neutral, the vehicle can be rolled or loaded.
Shift-lock override location

With zero electrical power
With completely dead 12V battery, the PDK shifter is locked electronically in Park. You must jump-start the 12V battery (front luggage compartment, driver's side) to gain even momentary power, turn ignition ON, then use the shift-lock override procedure. Without any power, the transmission cannot be released from Park—the vehicle must be flatbedded or dollied with rear wheels off the ground.
