🚨 2023 Porsche Panamera Turbo: Emergency Neutral

The 2023 Panamera Turbo uses a center console-mounted PDK (dual-clutch) shifter lever with an electronic shift-by-wire system and Park lock solenoid.

Expert-verified by Chris Hackleman & Jeff Moore — master technicians, 20+ years each.
⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.

The procedure

  1. Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and apply the parking brake fully (or chock all wheels if brake won't hold).
  2. Turn the ignition to ON position if 12V power is available (do not start engine).
  3. Press and hold the brake pedal firmly.
  4. Pull the shifter rearward to move from Park to Reverse, then forward through Neutral to release Park lock.
  5. If the shifter will not move due to shift interlock failure, locate the small rectangular shift-lock override cover on the left side of the shifter base near the console trim.
  6. Use a small flathead screwdriver or trim tool to carefully pry off the override cover.
  7. Insert the screwdriver into the override slot and press down while simultaneously pulling the shifter rearward to release from Park.
  8. Once in Neutral, the vehicle can be rolled or loaded.
Shift-lock override location
Small rectangular plastic cover on the left side of the shifter base, accessed by prying off the cap; the override slot is directly beneath.
With zero electrical power
With completely dead 12V battery, the PDK shifter is locked electronically in Park. You must jump-start the 12V battery (front luggage compartment, driver's side) to gain even momentary power, turn ignition ON, then use the shift-lock override procedure. Without any power, the transmission cannot be released from Park—the vehicle must be flatbedded or dollied with rear wheels off the ground.
