🚨 2024 Porsche Panamera Turbo: Emergency Neutral

The 2024 Panamera Turbo (third generation, 972) features a redesigned center console-mounted PDK shifter lever with electronic shift-by-wire and Park lock solenoid.

Expert-verified by Chris Hackleman & Jeff Moore — master technicians, 20+ years each.
⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.

The procedure

  1. Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and apply the parking brake fully (or chock all wheels if brake won't hold).
  2. Turn the ignition to ON position if 12V power is available (do not start engine).
  3. Press and hold the brake pedal firmly.
  4. Pull the shifter rearward to move from Park through Reverse to Neutral.
  5. If the shifter will not move due to shift interlock failure, look for the shift-lock override access near the shifter base on the left or front side of the shifter housing.
  6. Carefully pry off any small cover panel with a trim tool or small flathead screwdriver.
  7. Insert the tool into the override slot and press down firmly while pulling the shifter out of Park.
  8. Once in Neutral, the vehicle can be rolled or loaded.
Shift-lock override location
Expected near the left or front side of the shifter base under a small cover, but exact location on the all-new 972 generation may vary; consult owner's manual or inspect shifter base closely for override access.
With zero electrical power
With completely dead 12V battery, the PDK shifter is locked electronically in Park. You must jump-start the 12V battery (front luggage compartment) to provide power, turn ignition ON, then use the shift-lock override procedure. Without any power, the transmission cannot be released from Park—flatbed or dolly required with rear wheels off the ground.
