The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and apply the parking brake fully (or chock all wheels if brake won't hold).
- Turn the ignition to ON position if 12V power is available (do not start engine).
- Press and hold the brake pedal firmly.
- Pull the shifter rearward to move from Park through Reverse to Neutral.
- If the shifter will not move due to shift interlock failure, look for the shift-lock override access near the shifter base on the left or front side of the shifter housing.
