The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and apply the parking brake firmly
- Turn the ignition to the ON position (engine does not need to run) to provide power to the shifter release mechanism
- Locate the small rectangular shift-lock override cap on the left side of the shifter base, toward the driver's side
- Use a small flat-blade screwdriver or similar tool to carefully pry off the override cap
- Insert the screwdriver into the exposed override slot and press down firmly
- While holding the override down, press the brake pedal and move the shifter to Neutral
- If the vehicle must be moved without power, keep the override pressed while manually shifting to Neutral without brake pedal input

With zero electrical power
With no 12V power, access the override slot and press down firmly while moving the shifter to Neutral. The PDK transmission will mechanically disengage when Neutral is selected. However, the electronic steering lock will remain engaged without power, preventing wheel turning. For flatbed loading, the front wheels may need to be on dollies, or supply external 12V power via jump-start points under the front hood to release the steering lock before rolling the vehicle.
