The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on a level surface and apply the parking brake (if functional)
- Turn the ignition to ON position if 12V battery power is available
- Locate the shift-lock override slot on the left side of the shifter base, beneath a small rectangular cover
- Use a flathead screwdriver or the metal key blade to pry off the small cover cap
- Insert the screwdriver or key blade into the override slot and press down firmly
- While holding the override down, press the brake pedal (if power available) and move the shifter to Neutral
- If no brake pedal feel or power, continue holding the override and physically move the shifter to N
- Release the override tool once the shifter is in Neutral position
- Verify the gear position indicator shows N (if display has power)

With zero electrical power
With completely dead 12V battery, the shift-lock override will still function mechanically. Use the metal key blade from the key fob or a flathead screwdriver in the override slot. The shifter will move to Neutral without requiring electrical power, but the gear indicator will not illuminate. PDK transmission will be in true mechanical neutral.
