⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and apply wheel chocks—the parking brake is electronic and may not function without power.
- If the 12V battery has some charge: Press the brake pedal, press and hold the monostable shifter to the right (toward N position) until the dash confirms Neutral, then release the shifter.
- If 12V power is completely dead or shifter will not respond: Locate the small rectangular shift-lock override cover on the center console, directly below and slightly to the right of the shifter assembly.
- Use a flathead screwdriver or trim tool to carefully pry off the override cover.
- Insert a key or small screwdriver into the override slot and press down while attempting to move the shifter to Neutral position.
- With Neutral engaged, the vehicle can roll freely—maintain chocking and control at all times.

With zero electrical power
With a completely dead 12V battery, the monostable shifter may not provide feedback and the instrument cluster will be dark. Use the mechanical shift-lock override below the shifter. The high-voltage system is independent, but without 12V power, the parking brake remains engaged electronically—flatbed transport is required if the parking brake cannot be released.

CRITICAL: Taycan has NO traditional mechanical parking brake. If the 12V battery is dead, the electronic parking brake will remain engaged and cannot be released. The vehicle MUST be transported on a flatbed with all four wheels off the ground. Do NOT attempt to tow with any wheels on the ground. Jumping the 12V battery (located in front trunk) may allow temporary parking brake release for loading, but confirm parking brake release on the instrument cluster before attempting to roll the vehicle.
