🚨 2026 Porsche Taycan Turbo: Emergency Neutral

The 2026 Taycan is expected to use a small monostable (spring-return) center-console lever that returns to center position after each selection, continuing the current generation design.

Expert-verified by Chris Hackleman & Jeff Moore — master technicians, 20+ years each.
⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.

The procedure

  1. Ensure the vehicle is on a level surface and chocked - the Taycan has no traditional parking pawl in the transmission
  2. Attempt to activate the 12V system by pressing the brake pedal and pushing the start button twice (without holding) to enter accessory mode
  3. If the 12V battery has sufficient charge to power accessories, press and hold the brake pedal firmly
  4. Push the monostable shifter forward (toward the dashboard) to select neutral - you should see 'N' appear in the instrument cluster
  5. If the 12V system is completely dead and the shifter is locked, locate the small rubber cap or cover on the center console just forward and to the left of the shifter base
  6. Remove the cover to access the mechanical shift lock override slot
  7. Insert a flathead screwdriver or the key blade into the override slot and push down while attempting to move the shifter forward to neutral
  8. Once in neutral, the vehicle can roll freely - maintain constant braking or chocking

With zero electrical power
With zero 12V power, the electronic parking brake remains engaged and the shifter is locked. You must use the mechanical shift lock override to select neutral. The electronic parking brake cannot be released without 12V power - if the rear wheels are locked, the vehicle MUST be transported on a flatbed with the rear wheels off the ground, or the 12V battery must be jump-started to release the parking brake.
⚡ EV / hybrid warning
CRITICAL: The Taycan is a pure EV with an electronic parking brake that engages automatically. With a dead 12V battery, the parking brake cannot be released electronically. If towing is required, use FLATBED ONLY with rear wheels lifted or all four wheels off the ground. DO NOT flat-tow or dolly-tow with rear wheels on the ground as this will damage the electric motor and transmission. The high-voltage system will be disabled with a dead 12V battery. If the 12V battery can be jumped or charged, release the parking brake before attempting to move the vehicle.
