🚨 2022 Porsche Taycan: Emergency Neutral
The 2022 Taycan uses a small console-mounted drive selector stalk on the right side of the steering column with positions for P, R, N, and D.

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and chocked (this is critical for an EV with no mechanical parking pawl engagement without power)
- Access the front trunk (frunk) and locate the 12V battery - it's under the plastic cover in the frunk
- Connect an external 12V jump pack or power supply to the battery terminals (positive and negative) to restore auxiliary power
- Once 12V power is restored, press the brake pedal firmly
- Move the drive selector stalk to the N (neutral) position by pushing it forward to the first detent
- If 12V power cannot be restored and the vehicle must be moved immediately, locate the manual shift lock release - there is a small access panel/cap in the center console near the drive selector base
- Remove the access cap and insert a small flathead screwdriver or the emergency release tool from the vehicle toolkit
- Press or pull the mechanical release while attempting to move the selector to N
- Once in neutral, the vehicle can roll freely - use extreme caution as it is very heavy (over 5,000 lbs)

With zero electrical power
With zero 12V power, the Taycan's electronic systems are completely inoperable. The mechanical shift lock override near the selector stalk is the only option, but it may be very difficult to engage without any power assist. Restoring 12V power via the frunk battery is strongly preferred. The high-voltage system does not need to be active.

CRITICAL: The Taycan is a full EV weighing over 5,000 lbs. Flatbed transport is MANDATORY - do NOT tow with any wheels on the ground as the electric motors are always connected to the wheels and towing will cause severe damage to the drive units. The vehicle has no traditional transmission that can be 'disconnected.' Even in neutral, limit rolling distance to loading onto a flatbed only. There is no separate 'tow mode' - neutral is the only option and is for flatbed loading only.
