⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and chocked (this is critical for an EV with no mechanical parking pawl engagement without power)
- Access the front trunk (frunk) and locate the 12V battery - it's under the plastic cover in the frunk
- Connect an external 12V jump pack or power supply to the battery terminals (positive and negative) to restore auxiliary power
- Once 12V power is restored, press the brake pedal firmly
- Move the drive selector to the N (neutral) position using the updated selector mechanism
- If 12V power cannot be restored and the vehicle must be moved immediately, locate the manual shift lock release in the center console area near the drive selector
- The access method follows the facelifted design - look for a small removable panel, cap, or access slot near the selector mechanism
- Insert a small flathead screwdriver or the emergency release tool from the vehicle toolkit into the override access
- Engage the mechanical release while attempting to move the selector to N
- Once in neutral, the vehicle can roll freely - use extreme caution as it is very heavy (over 5,000 lbs)

With zero electrical power
With zero 12V power, the Taycan's electronic systems are completely inoperable. The mechanical shift lock override is the only option without power, but it may be very difficult to engage. Restoring 12V power via the frunk battery is strongly preferred. The high-voltage system does not need to be active.

CRITICAL: The Taycan is a full EV weighing over 5,000 lbs. Flatbed transport is MANDATORY - do NOT tow with any wheels on the ground as the electric motors are always connected to the wheels and towing will cause severe damage to the drive units. The vehicle has no traditional transmission that can be 'disconnected.' Even in neutral, limit rolling distance to loading onto a flatbed only. There is no separate 'tow mode' - neutral is the only option and is for flatbed loading only.
